Sunday Night Headliner: Mathias Lattin at Bluesfest 2025
Close out the Denton Blues Festival weekend in style with our Sunday headliner, Mathias Lattin, performing September 21st from 7–9 PM. This is a free, family-friendly event—so bring your lawn chairs, grab your friends, and get ready for an unforgettable evening of award-winning blues under the stars.
At just 21 years old, Mathias Lattin has already made blues history. In 2023, he captured international attention by winning both the International Blues Challenge and Best Guitarist Award, becoming one of the youngest artists ever to achieve both honors. His talent is undeniable, and his rise in the blues world has been nothing short of electric.
Blues runs deep for Mathias. The grandson of NBA Hall of Famer David “Big Daddy” Lattin, Mathias chose a different stage than the basketball court—the one lit by spotlights and filled with soul-stirring guitar riffs. A graduate of Houston’s acclaimed Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, he cut his teeth in the Houston blues scene starting at just 12 years old, when blues veteran Jonn Del Toro Richardson invited him to jam at The Big Easy.
By 2020, Mathias was touring with the Keeshea Pratt Band, gaining national recognition, and later joined Brazilian bluesman Cris Crochemore at the 2022 International Blues Challenge. In 2023, he stepped into the spotlight as a front man and proved beyond doubt that the future of the blues is alive and well.
His debut release, Up Next, showcases his songwriting, production skills, and influences shaped by the rich Houston music scene. It’s proof that this young guitarist is carrying the blues forward while honoring its traditions.
With a style that blends deep respect for blues legends and a fresh, youthful energy, Mathias Lattin is a name you’ll be hearing for years to come.
Don’t miss Mathias Lattin live at Bluesfest: Sunday, September 21st, 7–9 PM.
