Lady Adrena: Serving Up the Recipe for the Blues
Get ready for a powerhouse performance you won’t want to miss. On Saturday, September 20th, from 4:30–5:30 PM, the Bluesfest stage will be graced by none other than Lady Adrena—a vocalist, songwriter, and force of nature in the blues world.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Lady Adrena found her voice at just five years old in her church choir. Since then, her journey has taken her from Southern Soul stages to the heart of the blues, where she’s carved out a name all her own. With influences like Koko Taylor and Aretha Franklin, Lady Adrena blends raw power, gospel roots, and a soulful edge into every performance.
Her career has taken her across the United States and beyond, with her music being played on radio stations in France and the UK. She’s shared the stage with legends like Denise LaSalle, Anthony Hamilton, The Bar-Kays, Betty Wright, Lakeside, and Peggy Scott Adams, proving that her voice belongs in the company of greats.
But Lady Adrena is more than just a voice—she’s a storyteller. Her songs are steeped in lived experience, from early hits like What’s Good for the Goose to her recent releases Good Girl Gone Bad, Corona Blues, and Don’t Mess with My Man. Each carries a message, whether it’s resilience, empowerment, or pure heartache.
Her latest project, the acclaimed EP Recipe for the Blues (produced under Sweet Success Records), captures her journey of growth and healing. Written by Gene Munns, the record isn’t just a collection of songs—it’s a declaration. As Lady Adrena herself puts it: “You ask me about the Blues, and I’ll tell you I have the recipe.”
And she’s serving it up live at the Denton Blues Festival.
Expect a show that radiates soul, energy, and authenticity. With her commanding stage presence and a voice that moves from fiery grit to smooth velvet, Lady Adrena doesn’t just sing the blues—she lives them. As she says, “I didn’t choose the blues, the blues chose me.”
Don’t miss Lady Adrena at Bluesfest 2025: Saturday, September 20th, 4:30–5:30 PM.
