From UNT to the Blues Festival Stage: Fingerprints Is Live In Denton

This year, the North Texas band returns to Quakertown Park for the 28th Annual Denton Blues Festival, bringing nearly four decades of jazz, soul, blues and R&B — and some serious Denton roots — to the stage.
A Band Born in Denton
The Fingerprints story began right here in Denton in 1986, when guitarist Roy Machado and bassist Frederick Nichelson formed the band while studying music at the University of North Texas.
And they've been making music together ever since.
Over the years, Fingerprints has developed a distinctive sound built through live performance — a blend of soul, blues, jazz and R&B that has made the group a favorite at festivals and venues throughout North Texas and across the South and Southwest.
The band has released five albums, including Fingerprints, Reunion Live, Summertime Music, DNA, and Dream Life.
But what makes Fingerprints special isn't just longevity. It's that after decades of performing, they've remained committed to being exactly what they started as: a real band.
No overproduced sound. Just musicians, chemistry, soul and decades of experience together.
Denton Roots That Run Deep
Fingerprints' connection to Denton didn't end when its members left the UNT classroom.
The band has continued performing throughout the region while returning again and again to Denton stages and community events.
That's what makes having Fingerprints at this year's festival so special.
The Denton Blues Festival is about celebrating incredible music, but it's also about celebrating the people, culture and stories that make Denton's music community what it is.
Fingerprints is one of those stories.
A band started by UNT students nearly 40 years ago is still making music — and still coming home to play it.
