Denton Blues Festival Calls on Community: Give $28 for 28 Years

For 28 years, the Denton Blues Festival has brought generations together at Quakertown Park to celebrate music, culture, community, and tradition — always free and open to the public.

This year, festival organizers are asking the community to help close a critical funding gap related to security, permitting, and essential event operations.

The call is simple: give $28 in honor of 28 years.

Every donation helps protect a tradition that has become part of the fabric of Denton and helps ensure the festival remains accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to purchase a ticket.

“This festival belongs to the community,” said Lee R. Scurry Sr., Chairman of the Denton Black Chamber of Commerce. “For 28 years, families, neighbors, musicians, businesses, and supporters have helped carry this tradition forward. Now we are asking Denton to help us fill the gap and keep the music free.”

The fundraising effort is not a cancellation announcement, but a community call to action.

Organizers hope residents, businesses, former attendees, blues fans, and supporters will contribute $28, give what they can, and share the campaign with others.
