Artist Spotlight: EYCE

Live at Denton Blues Festival 2025

Get ready to move, because EYCE is bringing their high-energy Classic R&B and Funk sound to the Denton Blues Festival stage!

Formed over 30 years ago in Denton, this powerhouse band first came together at UNT under the name First Offense before rebranding as EYCE – Exceptional Yet Classified Essentials. Since then, they’ve built a reputation as one of the region’s most dynamic Funk and R&B groups, entertaining audiences across Texas, Louisiana, and beyond.

With a lineup of seasoned performers—including Mel “Bosco” Woodson and Caree “Ree” Skinner on lead vocals, Cedric “The Wizard” Rutledge on keys, James “BackBeat” Murphy on drums, Clifton “Alonzo” Bell on bass, Melvin “Mellow Mel” Smith on guitar, José “New York” Vega on percussion, and their newest member Lesly Louis on keyboards—this group delivers a wall of sound that is as smooth as it is funky.

Their shows keep the dance floor alive with covers of legends like Kool & The Gang, Chaka Khan, Prince, and Sly & The Family Stone, while blending in fresh originals such as “SLYCE of EYCE,” “Sending My Love,” and “Brotherhood.” With a legacy of radio airplay on Dallas’ K104 FM and decades of live performances, EYCE knows how to put on a show you won’t forget.

Catch EYCE live at the Denton Blues Festival 2025, Sunday at 3pm.
This is a free, family-friendly event—so bring your lawn chairs, friends, and dancing shoes for a night of funk and soul under the Texas sky.
