Mathias Lattin Returns as Headliner for the 2026 Denton Blues Festival
Listen to this up and coming Blues Icon:
The wait is over.
Last year, we were excited to welcome one of the brightest young stars in blues music to the Denton Blues Festival. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans.
This year, we're making it happen.
The Denton Blues Festival is proud to announce Mathias Lattin as the headliner for the 28th Annual Denton Blues Festival, returning to Quakertown Park on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
As we launch a new chapter with our One Day. One Community. All Blues. experience, there couldn't be a better artist to lead the celebration.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Mathias Lattin has quickly become one of the most exciting young musicians in modern blues. At just 20 years old, he made history by winning both Best Band and Best Guitarist at the 2023 International Blues Challenge — becoming only the third artist ever to earn both honors. Today, at just 24 years old, he's already shared the stage with legendary artists including Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Eric Gales, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Samantha Fish, and Joe Bonamassa.
Living Blues Magazine has called him "an artist to watch," while Blues Rock Magazine praised his ability to blend modern blues rock with an old-school feel, calling him one of the genre's most promising young guitarists. His unique style draws inspiration from jazz, classical, funk, soul, and the unmistakable Houston blues tradition.
Grandson of NBA Hall of Famer David Lattin, Mathias chose music over basketball, bringing the same determination and work ethic to his craft. Beyond performing, he continues to grow as a songwriter, producer, and collaborator, helping shape the next generation of blues music.
"We've been looking forward to bringing Mathias to Denton," said Vince Jackson, Blues Festival Committee Chair. "After last year's weather cancellation, we knew we wanted to invite him back. He's an incredible talent, and we're thrilled that he'll headline our new one-day festival experience."
The 28th Annual Denton Blues Festival will take place Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Quakertown Park.
The festival remains free to attend and will feature a full day of live blues music, local food vendors, artisan booths, family-friendly activities, and community experiences.
This year, we're inviting everyone to experience One Day. One Community. All Blues.
We can't wait to welcome Mathias Lattin to the Denton stage — and this time, we're hoping for nothing but blue skies.
